Summary
The Indo-Pacific is now a strategic space where the major geopolitical and economic issues of the contemporary world converge. Therefore, it is crucial to analyse the specificities of this region in order to define the contours of France's defence policy in the Indo-Pacific. This involves examining its priority areas, the resources deployed, and the challenges it faces.
This article highlights the resurgence of the Indo-Pacific as a space for asserting both national ambitions and multilateral partnership dynamics. The recent shift in the perception of the Indo-Pacific has emerged on the international stage with the rise of both developed and stable powers. As a result, this region is now seen as a strategic centre of gravity.
In this context, France isn’t an exception, as evidenced by the development of a specific defence strategy for the Indo-Pacific. Thus, it is essential to question this policy in order to understand the trajectory France intends to follow within this evolving space.
